CARBON FREE NY COALITION ANNOUNCES OVER 1,400 POSITIVE COMMENTS SUBMITTED TO SUPPORT NEW YORK’S EXISTING NUCLEAR FLEET
Today, the Carbon Free NY coalition announced that over 1,400 positive comments were submitted from nuclear employees, labor unions, environmental organizations, and local community members urging the New York State Public Service Commission to extend the ZEC program. Continued support of New York’s nuclear fleet will safeguard the state’s clean energy progress, protect ratepayers, and preserve thousands of good-paying union jobs.
Carbon Free NY released the following statement to conclude the public comment period:
“New York’s nuclear power plants are the backbone of our carbon-free energy supply, producing nearly half of all zero-emission electricity in the state. Over the past decade, the ZEC program has been an undeniable success: avoiding millions of tons of carbon pollution, keeping the lights on with reliable clean power, and protecting thousands of high-quality, union jobs across New York. By extending the program now, we can keep building on this momentum—securing our energy goals, ensuring access to affordable and reliable electricity, and strengthening the communities that depend on these plants. Extending the ZEC program is essential to maintaining progress toward a carbon-free grid, ensuring economic stability, and delivering cleaner air for all New Yorkers.”
