September 4, 2025 – A new analysis from The Brattle Group, commissioned by the Carbon Free NY Coalition, highlights the critical role New York’s upstate nuclear plants play in keeping energy costs stable for families and businesses, driving economic growth, and advancing clean energy goals. The report finds that the plants result in $50 billion in savings for New York ratepayers through 2050. 

ALBANY, NY — The Carbon Free NY Coalition, a coalition of business, labor, and economic development organizations that support the continued operation of New York’s three nuclear power plants, today issued the following statement in response to the New York State Department of Public Service’s (DPS) whitepaper recommending the continuation of the Zero-Emission Credit (ZEC) program: 

May 19, 2025 – Today, a broad coalition of labor, business leaders, economic development and environmental organizations relaunched the Carbon Free New York coalition to support the continued operation of New York’s nuclear power plants by extending the Zero-Emission Credit (ZEC) program. With the state’s ambitious climate goals at stake, the coalition is mobilizing to ensure that existing nuclear power remains a key pillar of New York’s clean energy strategy.
